I liked what Nod had to say about his new mixes..
Prince Nod – Dub Nod DJ Mix
Having made pilgrimages to every dubstep night in London this year, I was blown away by the size and volume of the scene. Meeting with my previous FFF guest Loefah, at the DMZ night in March was a definite highlight, as was seeing the crowd’s reaction to Skream’s remix of La Roux’s ‘In for the Kill’ on the killer Mass soundsystem. It was sheer classic ravin’. But I also found that the rise of funky and wonky styles amongst London producers proved that dubstep was never going to continue to satisfy the attention span of a city like London, with its strong garage and rave heritages. Dubstep is dead and genres have become utterly irrelevant in a year that has seen hip hop, house and techno rise from their graves to mesh themselves amongst the array of today’s ‘future beats’ that acknowledge all lineages and deny all boundaries. So, in honour of the death of dubstep, ive put together a short mix of some of my favourite dubstep classics. Starting and ending with two producers who have been at the forefront of experimentation with the genre (Burial and Martyn), the mix in between is a brief homage to zoot step, and a salute to the future.

After 7 months on the road throughout Europe from Budapest to London (including 3 months in Barcelona and a short stint in Japan), I’ve seen and heard alot of new music and met a lot of DJ’s and producers. I’ve been able to get an ‘insiders’ view of the creative minds in some of my favourite producers, such as Mike Slott, and observed a definite sense of self, and even cultural identity, shining out from the best electronic producers abounding today. This mix then, is fairly representative of what I just kept coming back to on the player, again and again. Its also a vision of my own production future, having spent some time getting out of some sonic habits, 2010 will see a whole new music emerge from Prince Nod and ill never look back!

As summer ends in the UK, another summer begins in Australia, so I thought id celebrate the continuos rays with some heat of my own by re-releasing this old mix I did for FFF back in 2008, this time with a couple of additions, and tracklisting. Put this on in the car, or at a house party for guaranteed bumpin’ and wobblin’. Don’t expect a slick beat matched mix, just big banging tuuuunez from your primal selector Prince Nod.
